This is the song that forced me to finally start a 2024 playlist. I can’t stop listening! The guitar, the delusional sentiment, the swimming metaphor… it’s all perfect to me. Her new album is out 6/21 btw.
NBPQ (Topless) by Sudan Archives
Why was everyone gatekeeping Sudan Archives from me???? Lol jk. I just “discovered” this album a few weeks ago and haven’t recovered. “I just wanna have my t*tties out”
This was a grower not a shower for me. I love thinking about the concept of aloneness v. loneliness and the lyric “if you don’t understand me then who can” gets me every time.
Meme:
Unfortunately I have no memes to share because my entire TikTok FYP is ASMR videos (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLqh6586/ ) and Josh O’Connor thirst traps (https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTLqhmJ3v/). I take back what I said about this being unfortunate.
Food:
Happy: my roommate, Mel, got me Dimo’s on Saturday after a night out. Crappy: it was a Chicago hot dog slice and I still ate the whole thing… I would not recommend and I will not be eating this again. If you’re looking for a recommendation, you should instead try the HBFC pizza from Piece Brewery and Pizzeria | Pizza and Craft Beer.
It finally happened… I tried Cava. In case you didn’t know, they recently opened their first Illinois location less than a half mile away from my house on Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. The first official day they were open was Friday, 4/26. I naively thought I would just stroll over for a fun/quick Friday lunch and was extremely disappointed to find a line out the door and down the block. I don’t like to wait for things, so I turned around and went home. Three days later on Monday, I tried again. I figured surely no one would be commuting/waiting in an absurd line for lunch on a Monday… WRONG. I had to turn my ass around and go home, AGAIN. The following day, Tuesday, I’m in the office chatting with a lovely girl on our finance team who lives a few blocks away from me. She asked if I’d tried Cava yet, and I relayed the above series of events. She nonchalantly explained she’d attended an EXCLUSIVE SOFT LAUNCH on the Thursday prior to the full opening. I cried. Over the next two weeks I continued to walk by Cava (to keep a finger on the pulse), but the line was never not unreasonably long. Fast forward to this past Sunday night, 9pm - I spend 30 minutes waiting in line. They were out of a ton of things (chicken, pita chips???) so I had to improvise and ultimately was not super impressed. I’m sure I will still go back. HMU if you have recs on what to order. One other thing to note: there IS a bouncer at the Cava door starting around 9pm.
Cicadas:
I’m eagerly anticipating the 2024 Cicada Emergence (2024 Cicada Emergence Information | The Morton Arboretum). I’ve been a fan for a while (see below) and even adopted a cat pre-named Cicada three years ago (also see below). Is anyone going to try eating them?
